Staghorn Fern, scientifically known as Platycerium bifurcatum, is a unique and eye-catching epiphytic fern native to Australia, Indonesia, and New Guinea. In its natural environment of tropical forests, it grows on tree trunks or rocks, absorbing moisture from the humid air and collecting nutrients from the falling leaves of overhead trees. It gets its common name from its fronds that resemble the antlers of a stag. Staghorn fern grows two types of fronds: the sterile base fronds, which are flat and shield-like, helping to attach the fern to its host and absorb water and nutrients; and the fertile fronds, which are long, bifurcated, and resemble stag antlers.
